Usage of consistent XOR gateway naming style

Description

To maintain a clear structure, a XOR gateway should always be named consistently in process models.

Regarding modeling conventions, XOR gateways can be named in different ways:

  • You can pose a question at the gateway, and have the possible answers attached to the outgoing sequence flows as labels. In order to add a label to the gateway or sequence flows, double-click them.
  • You can simply label the gateway to explain why sequence flows split here.
  • The third naming possibility is to only give the possible options. Instead of the gateway, only the outgoing sequence flows will be named.

If the option “empty” is selected as modeling guideline, neither the sequence flow nor the gateways need to be labeled. Gateways should always be labeled consistently to ensure readability of the diagram.
